May 1, 10:30 am - 4:00 pm £98.00
Do you have a story to tell? A book inside you, perhaps?
If you’re hesitating over how to begin, then here’s the perfect launchpad for you. As part of The Bothy at Bowood’s series of expert-led workshops, novelist Venetia Welby’s springtime ‘Writers’ Workshop’ is specifically designed with debut writers in mind.
Creative writing tutor and ‘Mother of Darkness’ author, Venetia will encourage a small, relaxed group of first-timers with advice, prose examples and inspirational tasks allowing creativity to flow. Starting with an exercise to free the hand and mind, Venetia will then explore with you the development of authentic characters, how to pen dialogue and the considerations for settings and senses.
Bowood will serve as muse with its parkland, gardens and ever-present sense of history also there to prompt words onto the page. Twenty minutes of the itinerary will be devoted to observational meandering through the Pleasure Grounds as part of a writing task.
The former gardener’s bothy has been rejuvenated as a dedicated space for talks, readership events and presentations and so will lend itself well for the writing workshop’s agenda and stimulating exchange with Venetia at the helm.
