The Wallace Collection is an art collection open to the public, showcasing an extensive collection of fine and decorative arts from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Comprising of nearly 5,500 objects, the compilation, including paintings, furniture, arms and armour, porcelain and Old Masters, are displayed in 30 galleries at Hertford House in Manchester Square.
Bequeathed to the Nation by Lady Wallace in 1897 and opened as a museum in 1900, the collection was started by the son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset and brother of Queen Jane Seymour, and was enhanced by five generations of the British aristocratic family.
