The Den at Bowood House & Gardens, focused on activities for inquisitive under 4’s and intrepid under 7’s.
Bowood House & Gardens is now closed and will re open for our 50th season on 29th March – 3rd November 2024.
New opening hours will be: 10:30 – 17:30, last admissions 16:30
The Activity Barn host’s indoor, interactive play for our under 7 visitors – with opportunities to role play in a farm yard, farm shop and café, children can enjoy letting their imaginations run wild.
Outdoors, children will love to ride a tractor trail with a range of exciting features to test and entertain.
Children will also have the opportunity to build their own unique outdoor woodland den, with materials sourced from trees on the Estate.
There is also a sand pit for children to play in.

Is there an age restriction in the Adventure Playground?
The Adventure Playground is only suitable for children aged 12 and under. Older children are not allowed on the equipment, unless they are supervising a younger child.
Is the Adventure Playground supervised?
Parents and Guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children whilst in the Adventure Playground and in all other areas of the Bowood Estate. During school holidays and weekends, staff will be on duty in the Playground to offer assistance when required, however, responsibility for supervision remains the responsibility of the parents and guardians.
Is all equipment open when it rains?
The House, Gardens and Activity Barn are unaffected by inclement weather. The Flying Fox (zip wire) and large outdoor slides in the Adventure Playground are closed during heavy rain for health & safety reasons. There is no age restriction on the Flying Fox, however a strict height limit of 130cm is enforced.

Can I travel to Bowood using public transport?
Bus – Routes 33 and X33 (Chippenham to Devizes) go through Derry Hill Village.
Route 55 stops on the A4 close to the turning into Derry Hill Village.
It is approximately 1½ miles from the entrance gate to Admissions for the House & Gardens.
Train – The nearest mainline station is Chippenham. Taxis are available or you can take the 55 bus to Studley crossroads.
Which entrance do I use?
The entrance to the House and Gardens is at the other end of Derry Hill village, just off the A4. You will enter via a White Gate. If using Satellite Navigation, please use postcode SN11 9NF.
All are signposted from the A4 and A342.
Please note: There is no access from the Golden Gates entrance to Bowood Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort opposite the Lansdowne Arms public house in Derry Hill.
The Woodland Gardens (open from 14th April to early June) are located off the A342 between Derry Hill and Sandy Lane. For Satellite Navigation please use the postcode SN11 9PG.
Is there a car and coach park at Bowood?
Free parking is available opposite the Treehouse Café and the main Admission point as well as the Woodland Gardens.
Can coaches drop passengers at Bowood House?
It is possible for coaches to drop off and collect passengers from the House by prior arrangement. Please call 01249 812 102 for all group booking enquiries.
