From climbing up the scramble net to crossing the rope bridges and racing down steep slides, children can spend countless hours exploring all the Adventure Playground has to offer. With a range of equipment across varying heights.

Ahoy there!
Located in the heart of the Adventure Playground is a life-size pirate galleon.
With rigging to climb, portholes to spy through and a watchtower looking out across the whole of the Playground, children can spend hours being swashbuckling adventurers.
Children can walk along the treetops on a series of aerial walkways.
Children can explore the Adventure Playground and push themselves to new heights by climbing huge scramble nets, balancing on beams and choosing from several thrilling slides.
For the under 7’s…
Located just behind the Adventure Playground is the Under 7’s Partridge Play Pen. Here you will find a range of boat swings, a Wendy House, and ball pit along with a new jumping pillow. This area is perfectly suited to younger children.

For children under 130cm, for safety reasons the Flying Fox can only operate during dry weather.
NEW for 2022, two new Jumping Pillows one for the over 7’s located near the Pirate Ship and another smaller Jumping Pillow for the under 7’s, located behind the Adventure Playground next to the Wendy House and the under 7’s area.
Bowood House & Gardens is now closed and will reopen for the 2023 season from 1st April – 1st November.
Opening hours: 10:00 – 17:00 with last admissions at 16:00.

Is there an age restriction in the Adventure Playground?
The Adventure Playground is only suitable for children aged 12 and under. Older children are not allowed on the equipment, unless they are supervising a younger child.
Is the Adventure Playground supervised?
Parents and Guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children whilst in the Adventure Playground and in all other areas of the Bowood Estate. During school holidays and weekends, staff will be on duty in the Playground to offer assistance when required, however, responsibility for supervision remains the responsibility of the parents and guardians.
Is all equipment open when it rains?
The House, Gardens and Activity Barn are unaffected by inclement weather. The Flying Fox (zip wire) and large outdoor slides in the Adventure Playground are closed during heavy rain for health & safety reasons. There is no age restriction on the Flying Fox, however a strict height limit of 130cm is enforced.

Can I travel to Bowood using public transport?
Bus – Routes 33 and X33 (Chippenham to Devizes) go through Derry Hill Village.
Route 55 stops on the A4 close to the turning into Derry Hill Village.
It is approximately 1½ miles from the entrance gate to Admissions for the House & Gardens.
Train – The nearest mainline station is Chippenham. Taxis are available or you can take the 55 bus to Studley crossroads.
Which entrance do I use?
The entrance to the House and Gardens is at the other end of Derry Hill village, just off the A4. You will enter via a White Gate. If using Satellite Navigation, please use postcode SN11 9NF.
All are signposted from the A4 and A342.
Please note: There is no access from the Golden Gates entrance to Bowood Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort opposite the Lansdowne Arms public house in Derry Hill.
The Woodland Gardens (open from 15th April to early June) are located off the A342 between Derry Hill and Sandy Lane. For Satellite Navigation please use the postcode SN11 9PG.
Is there a car and coach park at Bowood?
Free parking is available opposite the Treehouse Café and the main Admission point as well as the Woodland Gardens.
Can coaches drop passengers at Bowood House?
It is possible for coaches to drop off and collect passengers from the House by prior arrangement. Please call 01249 812 102 for all group booking enquiries.

Are dogs allowed into Bowood grounds?
Only working Assistance Dogs are permitted at Bowood. During the six week season that the Woodland Gardens are open, dogs are permitted in that area only, provided they are kept on a lead.

What happens in inclement weather?
Please note that during inclement weather, the Flying Fox (zip wire), large outdoor slides and Jumping Pillows will be closed, however, all other attractions remain unaffected. There are no reductions/discounts available in poor weather. Bowood management reserves the right to close the House & Gardens in exceptional circumstances.
Can I bring my Child’s bike and scooter?
Children’s Bikes and Scooters are not allowed within the Grounds of Bowood House & Gardens or Bowood’s Woodland Gardens.
Can I leave my car overnight?
There are no overnight parking or camping facilities on the Estate. Accommodation is available at Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Is swimming in the lake allowed?
Swimming or paddling in the lake, cascade, or fountains is strictly forbidden.
