Whether you are looking to entertain the whole family or wear out the children with some serious playtime, we have something for everyone! From Den Building, Pirate Ship Adventures to Tractor Trails and Wiltshire’s most famous Slide.
Bowood House & Gardens is open daily till 3rd November 2024. New opening hours will be: 10:30 – 17:30, last admissions 16:30.
Adventure Playground and The Den opening hours: 10:30 – 17:15 (Equipment locked from 17:00).
Please note: The Adventure Playground is only suitable for children aged 12 years and under. Older children are not allowed on the equipment, unless they are supervising a younger child. The famous Space Dive is for aged 12 years and under which has a 19ft vertical drop. The Flying Fox has a strict height limit of 130cm enforced. The Den and Activity Barn is suitable for children aged 7 years and under.
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITIES HOUR: On the first Saturday of every month throughout the season, we will be opening the Adventure Playground, The Den and Treehouse Café an hour earlier to visitors with additional needs or hidden disabilities. This session is inclusive to immediate family members or carers of those with a registered disability ticket. Opening from 9:30am. Put on your wellies and explore, our pumpkin trail will lead you though the grounds, eight pumpkins to find, unscramble the letters to discover the word and claim your prize. Get up close and hands-on with real live animals at a ‘Creepy Critters’ workshop, hosted by ZooLab UK.
An adrenaline-fuelled playground.
Children aged 12 and under can enjoy a range of activities from walking along the treetops on a series of aerial walkways to pushing themselves to new heights and taking the plunge down the famous 19ft vertical drop Space Dive. The playground is also equipped with balance beams, boat swings, Jumping Pillows, and climbing frames.
The Den, our new attraction at Bowood House & Gardens, focused on activities for inquisitive under 4’s and intrepid under 7’s.
The Activity Barn host’s indoor, interactive play for our under 7 visitors – with opportunities to role play in a farm yard, farm shop and café, children can enjoy letting their imaginations run wild.
Outdoors, younger children will love to ride a tractor trail giving them space to explore, with a range of exciting features to test and entertain.
Children will also have the opportunity to build their own unique outdoor woodland den, with materials sourced from trees on the Estate. There is also a Sand Pit for children to play in.
While visiting us explore the Arboretum and discover these eight magnificent trees, with fun facts along the way.

Can I travel to Bowood using public transport?
Bus – Routes 33 and X33 (Chippenham to Devizes) go through Derry Hill Village.
Route 55 stops on the A4 close to the turning into Derry Hill Village.
It is approximately 1½ miles from the entrance gate to Admissions for the House & Gardens.
Train – The nearest mainline station is Chippenham. Taxis are available or you can take the 55 bus to Studley crossroads.
Which entrance do I use?
The entrance to the House and Gardens is at the other end of Derry Hill village, just off the A4. You will enter via a White Gate. If using Satellite Navigation, please use postcode SN11 9NF.
All are signposted from the A4 and A342.
Please note: There is no access from the Golden Gates entrance to Bowood Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort opposite the Lansdowne Arms public house in Derry Hill.
The Woodland Gardens (open from 12th April to early June) are located off the A342 between Derry Hill and Sandy Lane. For Satellite Navigation please use the postcode SN11 9PG.
Is there a car and coach park at Bowood?
Free parking is available opposite the Treehouse Café and the main Admission point as well as the Woodland Gardens.
Can coaches drop passengers at Bowood House?
