'Awful Auntie' by David Walliams

We are delighted to welcome Heartbreak Productions back with an outdoor open-air theatre production of ‘Awful Auntie’ – by the UK’s most loved children’s writer – David Walliams. 

Saturday 20th August 2022 – 6pm at Bowood House & Gardens

Tickets on sale until midday on the day of the event. This is a ticketed event, must be purchased in advance.


This book tells the story of Stella Saxby, who is tormented by her awful Aunt Alberta and her giant owl. The dastardly duo will stop at nothing to take her inheritance from her.

Pack a picnic, grab a chair and dress for the weather.

Ticket Prices:

£16.50 – Adult (16+)
£11.50 – Child (3-15 years)
£14.50 – Concession / Senior (60+)
£50.00 – Family of four (2 adults plus 2 children (under 15) or 1 adult and 3 children (under 15)

2 years and under are complimentary and do not need a ticket.

Plus a 50p Booking/Admin Fee per person.


Show starts at 6pm running for 2 hours including a 15 minute interval and should finish approx. 8pm.

Gates open 45 mins before the performance start time. Please do not arrive before this as the team will still be preparing the performance area. You will not be charged entrance into Bowood at this time arriving from 5:15pm. However if you wish to arrive earlier than this in the day and visit Bowood House, Grounds, Adventure Playground and The Den before the performance, separate admissions will apply. You can purchase a Day Ticket to Bowood House & Gardens online or on the day at admissions. Bowood House & Gardens opens from 11am last admissions at 5pm closing at 6pm.

Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the performance is due to start.

The Treehouse Café will be open for snacks and drinks (closing just after the interval) and the Adventure Playground will be closed at 17:45. Also if you are bringing chairs please be courteous to others and seat yourself closer to the back to allow those on picnic blankets a clear view of the stage. You may bring drinks including alcohol as part of your picnic, we ask you to drink responsibly and respect this is a Family Friendly evening.  If you bring any glass into Bowood please take this home with you for safety of visitors and wildlife.

Getting Here: Please use the entrance to the House & Gardens, which is at the other end of Derry Hill village, just off the A4.  You will enter via a White Gate.  If using Satellite Navigation, please use postcode SN11 9NF. Parking is complimentary and is near the Treehouse Café, you will need to enter via Bowood House & Gardens admissions next to the Treehouse Café and they will scan the barcode on your ticket on arrival and point you in the direction of the stage.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and shown on arrival and are non-refundable and non-transferable and does not include access into Bowood House & Gardens during the day.

If you wish to visit the House, Grounds, Adventure Playground and The Den during the day, you can purchase a Day Ticket to Bowood House & Gardens online or on the day at admissions. Bowood House & Gardens opens from 11am.

If you have booked a Season Ticket Holder Ticket using the discount code, you will need to bring your 2022 Bowood House & Gardens Season Ticket Card with you to show on arrival with your confirmation email.
