An exciting new highlight is 31 May – 2 June’s RunFestRun as recently announced by Virgin Radio DJ Chris Evans as a follow-up to the success of his CarFest. Bowood has been selected for this brand new family-friendly, three-day camping and running festival that is being billed as ‘Britain’s biggest running party’. Routes will range from an immersive 2.5K fun run through to a timed half marathon. Paula Radcliffe and Steve Cram are both signed up and there’ll be a line-up of well-known bands and DJs among the event’s many activities.
Back for a second year, will be the Spring Classic Car & Motorcycle Show on Sunday 5th May and then again on Sunday 18th August. Presented by leading classic vehicle events organiser Classic Shows, a spectacular day of motoring heritage — ideal for enthusiasts, families and day trippers — can be expected. Vintage, classic and modern classic vehicles will be displayed, according to age and type (sports and convertibles, kit, custom and replica, American and electric vehicles). There will be private exhibitors and club stands too.
The open-air ‘Classic Ibiza’ concert will bring some of the best of the White Island’s dance tunes to orchestral life at Bowood for a third year on Saturday 3rd August. The Urban Soul Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Hussey, will take to the stage that looks out across the parkland while picnickers will head into full party mode as the sun sets over the lake.
Other returning events include the Tractor Ted Big Machines Weekend over the Spring Bank Holiday (Saturday 25th – Monday 27th May) and September’s Wiltshire Game and Country Fair (Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th). Also making the most of Bowood’s wide-open space and stunning scenery will be the charity 10km Fun Run (Sunday 24th March – a few days ahead of the House and Gardens’ reopening), the LPS Events Triathlon (Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June) and the LPS Events Duathlon (Sunday 14th October).
2019’s series of midweek Walled Garden tours begin again on Wednesday 24th April while, two miles away on the Estate, the Woodland Garden season starts three days later. Running throughout the season, Bowood House’s exhibition, ‘Victoria, Albert and the Lansdownes’ will mark the 200th anniversary of the births of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
Bowood House & Gardens will open daily from 30th March – 3rd November 2019 (11am-6pm)
