Lord and Lady Lansdowne together with their family were delighted to host over 500 members of the local community, estate staff, and family members last week at the lighting of a beacon in honour of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
This was just the beginning of a wonderful Jubilee weekend of celebrations around the Bowood Estate.
As millions of people all around the world celebrated Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Bowood Estate was also heightened with joyous celebrations.
The Bank Holiday Weekend began with Lord Lansdowne lighting a beacon on Thursday 2nd June at 9.45pm, coordinating with 2,000 other beacons nationwide, creating a network of flaming tributes to honour Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. The evening was enjoyed by over five hundred members of the local community, estate staff, and family members.
The celebrations amongst the local community continued to unfold throughout the weekend, as residents in Derry Hill and Studley created a wonderful programme of activities in the village to mark this momentous occasion. The Bowood Estate was delighted to host the ‘BIG Lunch’ in front of Bowood House on Sunday 5th June, welcoming over six hundred guests from the surrounding village.
The community spirit was in full swing with support from the Women’s Institute providing an enormous ‘Union Jack’ cake! The perfect addition to the picnic and enjoyed by many. With the backdrop of the beautiful Georgian house and views across the parkland and lake, it was a wonderfully quintessential moment shared amongst friends and family, as we all reflected on the Queen’s 70 years of reign.
The fun continued as complimentary access to the House & Gardens was extended to the local community, many putting their hand to our royal-themed arts and crafts. Bunting was embraced at every opportunity turning the grounds red, white and blue!
The celebrations stretched across the parkland as guests at Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort enjoyed our Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea, served with Pommery English Sparkling Wine.
Through collective collaboration, planning, and the welcome support of The Lansdowne Family, estate staff, local community, and all the amazing volunteers, the long weekend was celebrated with relish. Peter Prater, Chair of the Derry Hill and Studley Platinum Jubilee Committee, was full of praise commenting that;
“We never expected Bowood to grant us the privilege of attending the Beacon Lighting or holding our community BIGLunch on the Front Lawn of Bowood House and we have really enjoyed working closely and collaboratively with the team in the Bowood Estate Office throughout the planning of the events.”
A celebration we will always remember…
