Too often do we see people practicing technique and not replicating what happens out on the golf course. Let’s have a look at a performance drill directly for putting, where there’s no feedback or focus on technique. The challenge is to simply…..get the ball in the hole. The Spiral drill is a perfect example.
To set it up, place six balls around the hole so the first putt is from three foot, the next is from four foot, the one after that is from five foot and so on. It should create a spiral around the hole so every putt is a different distance and angled across the slope, this requires you to control your speed relative to the line. Added to that is the pressure of needing to hole every putt. You can only move on once you’ve holed all six putts consecutively.
You could be there for a while, but it focuses the mind, makes it more relevant and incorporates lots of skills.
Trust me, if you get down to that last putt after you’ve been trying for hours on end, it’s a knee trembler.
Extra tip: If you’re feeling really confident once you’ve completed the first way, try and do this back to front and see how far you can get!!!
This drill really helps try and replicate the pressure of having to hole a putt be it for birdie, par or even a bogey, therefore once you’ve done this drill a few times, the pressure putts on course will be a stroll in the park!!

See you on the course
