Set within 100 acres of beautifully landscaped ‘Capability’ Brown Parkland a beautiful House with a rich history. Explore the family Library and Chapel, the room where Joseph Priestley discovered Oxygen in 1774, the Sculpture Gallery, the Orangery and a range of exhibition rooms where nearly 300 years of amazing artefacts and antiques from the family history are on display.
Bowood House & Gardens is the perfect place for a family visit, with something for everyone!
Bowood House hosts a wealth of unique art and antique collection with many historical treasures, such as Napoleon’s death mask and Queen Victoria’s wedding chair.
Awarded the HHA/Christies Gardens of the Year in 2014, the formal terraces and gardens at the front of the House provide abundant colour throughout the season and provide a beautiful place to enjoy the view of the landscape beyond. The 4 acre Private Walled Garden at the rear of the House can be enjoyed by pre-booking a guided tour.
Our Woodland Gardens open annually between April and early June showcasing amazing vistas of colour from Rhododendrons and Azaleas.
Please note HHA Members are limited to 3 visits to the House & Gardens during the open season from 28th March – 4th November 2018 and does not include entry to the Woodland Gardens.

Capability Brown created the landscape and stunning lake over 5 years between 1763 and 1768. It is one of the best (and most unspoilt) examples of his famous work. Visitors can explore at their leisure, 100 acres of pleasure grounds, including an arboretum, cascade, doric temple, Hermits Cave and the lake itself. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted within the grounds of Bowood House & Gardens however well behaved dogs are allowed on leads in the Woodland Gardens during the open season.
An adrenaline fuelled adventure playground, with a life-size Pirate Ship and aerial walkways, several thrilling slides, a huge scramble net and perhaps the most famous and popular of all; The Space Dive, with an exhilarating 19 foot vertical drop! As you can imagine the adventure playground is responsible for hours of excitement and fun!
For those not quite so daring, the adventure playground also contains swing boats, a Wendy house, ball pool, see-saws, swings and a large sand pit. For the under 7s there is the ‘Partridge Play Pen’ which includes log bridges, swinging log steps, stepping stones and balancing beams. The Soft Play Area provides a safe, dry and fun environment, equipped with a ball pool, slide, spinning discs and rope walks for the little ones.
Tractor Ted’s Little Farm
A hop, skip and a jump away is Tractor Ted’s Little Farm with a barn full of friendly farm animals, where children can meet lambs, piglets, rabbits and many more animals. Come and watch the chicks hatching and experience Tractor Ted real action films alongside Tractor Ted Activity Corner, all under cover.
Children’s Birthday Parties
Bowood is the perfect location for a children’s birthday party. Held in the Gardeners’ Bothy within Bowood House & Gardens, themed with either Tractor Ted, Pirate or Fairies and access to the amazing adventure playground all day.
